Bloomsday is an annual literary celebration held every June 16th to honour the life and work of Irish author James Joyce. It commemorates the date in 1904 when Joyce went on his first outing with his future wife, Nora Barnacle—who is widely considered the inspiration for Molly Bloom. This significant date also serves as the setting for Joyce's masterpiece, Ulysses.
In Galway, Bloomsday is celebrated outside Barnacle's childhood home on Bowling Green—the smallest museum in Ireland. The museum preserves treasured photographs, personal memorabilia, and excerpts from the passionate correspondence shared between the couple.
