Una Taaffe and Menlo Castle, Galway, 1989

from CA$23.32
Una Taaffe (1922-2006) was a beloved Galway character. Through the 1980s and early '90s, Una managed Taaffe's—the family's woollens store—on William Street with her brother. This photo of Una Taaffe was taken at the Galway Fair, 1989. Behind her is the River Corrib and Menlo Castle just outside Galway City, Ireland. Once a statuesque beauty, Una had worked for a time as a model and actor and was a skilled sportswoman in her youth. She came from one of the most successful merchant families in Galway. Una lived above the store, which was closed down in 1996 and is still derelict today. Menlo Castle (also known as Blake's Castle) is a 16th-century ruin located on the banks of the River Corrib. Originally a defensive tower house, it became the ancestral home of the influential Blake family until it was gutted by fire in 1910. © Suzanne Ahearne Available in various sizes, the photo is printed on premium semi-glossy paper with a subtle shine and is protected against fading from light or moisture:    Paper Finishing: Semi-glossy, enhances colors with a subtle shine.    Paper Weight: 200 gsm (80 lb), thickness: 0.22 mm (8.7 mils).    Sustainable Paper: FSC-certified or equivalent paper for sustainability.   No minimum orders, printed and shipped on demand.
